The number of foreign language students has increased enormously throughout the years. The task of coming up with a way to reach and teach these students has not been a simple one for teachers, given the different languages that are brougt to the schools. Technology has made it easier for students to use programs to learn the English language and become successful. In our school, we use a program called Lexia for our foreign and spanish speaking students. Virtual field trips are also another way for these students to visually see what the teacher is trying to explain or teach. They can look at the objects or places and even though they cannot understand the language, they can understand the representation of it.

There are different types of online models students can use. The non-interactive model is based on content presentations with built-in assessments. Interactve online models are the most common used at all levels of education. Students can meet and interact with their instructors. For example, Blackboard is an interactive online model. There are many things to consider when designing a course or program online. The instructor must take into consideration the content of the course and the design in which it should be learned and assessed.
In order for the teacher to successfully evaluate and record progress, communicate with students and parents, and keep everything organized, they must have the appropriate skills to use certain tools. Data collection and analysis tools can be used to record progress and evaluate the student. Weekly progress reports can be sent home in order to show this documentation. Graphic tools, such as flyers with pictures can give the student information they may need for upcoming events. At our school, we use class DOJO which can be accessed by teachers and parents. It is a planning and organizing tool that keeps up with behavior points for the student, assignment submissions, and gives the parents access to the information. Students also use a research and reference tool when looking up definitions on Dictionary.com. They use this tool frequently in individual lessons and in whole group discussions. When a word is stumbled upon that the students do not recognize, the teachers and myself will pull up the definition on Dictionary.com and provided a definition with examples.

The literal meaning of instructional software is the general term for computer programs used specifically to deliver instruction or assist with the delivery of instruction on a topic. In my experience, the students use Lexia, Imagine Learning, and I-Ready computer programs. These programs are allowed during specific time periods in every day. Most of the students have never lived a life without technology, so I definitely think the programs are beneficial and motivating for the students. They produce immediate feedback, assist in what the student is getting incorrect, and give the students game time on some of the programs. This increases their motivation to learn the material in order to receive the game at the end of the lesson. It also gives the teacher a chance to work with another student who may need one on one guidance while the other students are working on their programs. Every day, the students have twenty minutes of I-Ready time. If there is a student who needs the individual attention of the teacher, they now have that time available to help that student!
what educational technology means and the issues associated with itMost of the time, people tend to think of educational technology as devices such as computers, tablets, cell phones, chromebooks, etc. Although those are all correct terms of technology, that doesn't define what educational technology means. They are simply the latest developments in technology used in the classroom today. Educational technology is viewed as both processes and tools to teach using the most current digital information tools. Incorporating technology in the classroom has been beneficial in many ways in my own experiences. The students are able to perform independent tasks using the tools provided, and progress at a faster rate than before the new technology was introduced. Unfortunately, when something new is introduced, issues arise. Funding for these tools is hard to come by, especially when so many students need the modern tools. When the school does get the new technology, it doesn't take long for it to change. This creates frustration for teachers and students for constantly having to learn a new way to use technology. Some educators get discouraged and do not take advantage of the modern tools. Instead, they lose their sense of worth and let the technology do the teaching. More teachers need to understand that as the technology advances, the more the teacher is needed to guide the students. Another downfall of using modern technology is the risk of viruses and safety issues. I have witnessed students logging on to inappropriate site, and the fear of a child stumbling on a site they shouldn't be on is higher now than ever before. The students have access to many great opportunities, but they also have access to things they do not need to so. In order to keep our children safe and engaged, it is vital that we, as educators, are 100% involved and committed in what our students are doing. technology integration theories and planning model for teachersIntegrating technology into the classroom can be difficult and hard to approach. There are many different ways and ideas used to incorporate technology into the classroom. Behaviorist theorists say that behaviors are controlled by the consequences of actions. This means that the students will behave a certain way if they know they will get rewarded afterwards. Many programs that students use have this feature. Many students in my own classroom love doing their lessons just to be able to play the games that come at the end. They focus and pay attention in order to get a good grade so they can receive a prize from the treasure box. I am a firm believer in incentives, HOWEVER, the student should not be fully reliant on a prize just to do their work. Teacher's shouldn't bribe students every day to keep them engaged. After all, it is their job to teach the students, and it is the student's job to come to school prepared to learn. Information processing theorists associate learning with the sensory receptors. They believe students learn better and remember what is being taught when the content catches the student's eye. Quite a few of the programs used at my school are flashy and the content is easy for the student's to relate to. When we read stories online, the website we use has moving pictures. It is unbelievable how much more excited the students are to read a book when the content is animated. Cognitive behaviorist theorists believe that each skill should have an activity matched to it. When the students are doing their lessons and learning new content, it may be easy to stray away from the computer screen. If the students know they have a drill to complete to see if they were paying attention, they are more likely to remain engaged in what is being taught. Incorporating technology seems like a difficult task, but when teachers use the right method, they are able to successfully teach using technology based lessons. In phase one of the teaching model, the teacher must analyze the problems in the classroom and figure out how the technology based strategies could address these problems. In phase two, they make decisions about outcomes and how they can be assessed. Phase three is the most important. Teachers will review the evidence on how successful the strategies were. They can use the information to decided whether or not changes should be made to the objectives, strategies, and implementation tasks. This is time consuming, but definitely ensures a higher success rate for next time.
